WhatsApp Business API Pricing in India 2026 — A Plain-English Guide

How WhatsApp pricing actually works in India

Since June 2023 Meta moved from per-message pricing to per-conversation pricing. A 'conversation' is a 24-hour window between you and one user. Within that window you can exchange unlimited messages for a single charge. The price depends on which of the four conversation categories the conversation falls into: Marketing, Utility, Authentication or Service. From November 2024, Meta began moving to a per-message model for some categories and removing free service conversations — this guide covers what's actually billed in India in 2026.

The 4 conversation categories

Each WhatsApp conversation is automatically classified into one of these four buckets — and each has a different rate.

Marketing

Promotional content, offers, product launches and re-engagement. Most expensive category in India because consent is mandatory and conversion is high. Approximate Meta rate in India: ₹0.78 per message-equivalent.

Utility

Order updates, shipping notifications, payment confirmations and appointment reminders. Cheaper than Marketing. Approximate India rate: ₹0.115 per message-equivalent.

Authentication

OTPs, login codes and password resets. Often replaces SMS OTP at 50–70% lower cost. Approximate India rate: ₹0.115 per message-equivalent.

Service

Customer-initiated support conversations. Has free entry-points and often included in your plan up to a free monthly tier.

Frequently asked questions

What is the actual price of a WhatsApp message in India in 2026?
Meta's published India conversation rates as of 2026 are roughly: Marketing ~₹0.78, Utility ~₹0.115, Authentication ~₹0.115 per message-equivalent. Service messages within a 24-hour customer-initiated window are typically free or included in your platform plan. Rates can change — always check Meta's pricing page or your BSP for current numbers.
Is there a difference between per-conversation and per-message pricing?
Yes. Until November 2024 Meta charged per 24-hour 'conversation' regardless of message count. From late 2024 onward Meta has been moving Marketing and Utility to a true per-message model in many countries, including India. Your BSP invoice should show this clearly.
Why do BSPs charge different rates for the same WhatsApp message?
Every BSP pays Meta the same wholesale rate but adds a markup. Some BSPs add 20–250% on top — Mappstore adds the smallest possible markup and lists per-message rates transparently inside your dashboard.
Are Click-to-WhatsApp ads really free?
Conversations originating from a CTWA ad are free for the first 72 hours of the conversation. You still pay Meta for the ad itself (CPC/CPM), but the WhatsApp conversation portion is free during that window.
What is the cheapest legal WhatsApp Business API in India?
Mappstore is among the cheapest official BSPs in India: ₹999/month per WABA + transparent per-message rates with zero hidden platform fees, per-seat fees or per-contact fees. Combine with CTWA free entry-points for further savings.
Does Mappstore charge GST?
Yes — 18% GST is added per Indian tax law and shown clearly on every invoice. GSTIN is required for input tax credit on your subscription and message charges.
Can I see exact costs before sending?
Yes — open the Mappstore Pricing Calculator on this site, enter your expected volume per category, and see your monthly cost in INR including subscription, messages and GST.
